    SSA CHANGES COURSE AGAIN

President Trump and temporary government employee, Elon
Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) made
changes in how the Social Security Administration handled certain
matters, such as applications for benefits and change of address
during the early days of the new administration.

All new applications for benefits were held 3 days, under the new
policy, to check for fraud. Combined with staffing cutbacks (7,000
employees) the backlog of pending applications quickly grew to
    575,000 cases.

These, and other matters, had to be handled online through the
“my Social Security” platform or via an in-person visit. When
lawmakers, advocates, and ordinary citizens complained (loudly),
SSA reversed course and said it would continue to allow routine
matters be handled over the phone.
Of the 575,000 pending claims, 140,000 have been waiting 60
    days, according to CNN.
