NATIONAL SLAM THE SCAM DAY
Thursday, March 9th, is National Slam the Scam Day. This is a day designated by the Social Security Administration to heighten awareness on scams perpetrated by fraudsters pretending to be employees of the Social Security Administration.
Scammers mention a problem or a prize. They may ask for your Social Security number or other information to process an increase in benefits.
Scammers will pressure you to act immediately. They may threaten you with arrest.
And scammers will tell you to pay using a gift card or prepaid debit card, which cannot be traced.
So be aware and remember the 4 “Ps”. Those are pretending, problem, pressure and pay.
Don’t get scammed!
